BB&T Atlanta Open Sloane Stephens & Madison Keys

While at BB&T Atlanta Open, I had a moment with Sloane And Madison to see how they are staying healthy before the US Open.

The BB&T Atlanta Open is the only ATP men’s event that opens play with a women’s exhibition match. Stephens is ranked No. 3 and Keys is ranked No. 12 on the WTA Tour.

These two fierce ladies show true sportsmanship by speaking highly of each other and leaving the match on court, win or lose, and maintaining beautiful friendships. As we all know, tennis starts with Love.



Stephens staying healthy before the US Open:

“I’m making sure I get enough rest, sleeping enough, enjoying myself, not being too stressed out. Eating my favorite food and working out when I’m supposed to. Just little things. I think taking care of your body is always the most important about part of being a tennis player, being any type of athlete. To be able to do that obviously going into the US Open is really important, so just trying to take care myself the best way I can."


Madison staying healthy before the US Open:


“I am doing lots of fitness and tennis and all of that, but I’m also doing a lot of rehab work. After last year, after the US Open, I had tendinitis in my wrist just because I came back from surgery too soon. So I now have a pretty extensive rehab program that I do 2 or 3 times a week just to keep everything working and, you know, feeling good. That’s really all I can do and whenever there’s little aches and pains, just trying to take care of it right away and not letting anything linger."




Tips to stay healthy as you cheer on your favorite tennis player at the US Open:
​
  • Hydration – Water, water, water! Drink a minimum of eight glasses of water per day
  • Fill any nutritional gaps that you are not receiving through diet with supplementation
  • Stash snacks such as energy bars and fruit as an easy source of energy on the go, before or after matches
  • Your body recovers while you’re asleep, so make sure you get enough sleep each night (8-10 hours)
  • Make time with friends and family for mental recovery
  • Meditate. It helps with focus and promotes mindfulness
  • Stretch! It is beneficial before matches and after
  • Book a deep tissue muscle massage
  • In the gym, use weight training for muscle strength/power
  • On the mat, use yoga for flexibility

Healthy Craving On The Road

Summertime ​is​ road​ ​trip season​! ​Whether it’s a family trip or girls trip, we all have to stop for food. That’s one of the best parts​!​ Trust me​,​ I know it’s hard eating healthy on the road. Hopefully these healthy hacks will keep your stomach happy as you journey. Don’t forget the sunscreen!
